It's a very light weight fork, with a stiff chassis on par with an 32mm fork, with an excellent compression damping system. It's compression damping system is very versatile, and can be set up to emulate a platform, or extremely plush. Personally, I run enough low speed compression damping to control brake dive and pedal bob, and then lower the high speed damping to just above it.

If you look on eBay, you can buy a new one for a little over $400. I can also still get this work with v-brake bosses.

There were some quality issues with mine, and had to replace the Dual Air unit. The build quality also just isn't as nice as a Fox.

The knobs don't have detentes on them, so you have to count turns, and the low speed compression knob is also your lockout, so good luck hitting your previous setting coming off lock out. Maintenance is also a bit annoying since you need to inject oil into a hole hidden up inside the leg of the fork; this gets messy. Finally, the rebound. The Race comes with a port orifice damping system, so if you're taking fast, successive hits like in a rock garden or a rooted trail, the fork packs down and essentially becomes very stiff.

You cannot adjust around this. On the upside, you can buy the Black Box rebound damper from Universal Cycles for $65 and it's a straight swap. The Black Box damper is a proper shimmed system, and the difference is readily apparent on the trail. That said, if you're new to biking, then you'd be hard pressed to notice the difference. After switching back and forth between my SID and Fox Float, the nod finally went to the SID. It's a superb XC fork with just a hint of cheapness to it, but I can live with that since it saved me $300.
